The cylinder must be lubricated to ensure it is not stuck in the lock. This can be accomplished using brake cleaner. It will clean and lubricate all lock cylinder parts. Once the cleaner is used, you can use a screwdriver remove the 10mm bolt that holds the handle to the housing of the cylinder. Install the new cylinder and then use the original key to operate it. It is best to purchase a cylinder with the same brand and model as your existing one. This will ensure that it fits properly and seals securely. After it's installed and the door is tested, confirm that the lock works correctly and that the door is closed securely. Door Lock Cylinder Repair The lock cylinder is a part of your car's door that keys fit into to unlock or secure the door. If you're having trouble turning the key in the lock, or if it gets stuck, it's an indication that the door cylinder could be damaged and require replacement. You can purchase new cylinders at any auto parts store, but you will need to know your car's model and make before you shop. You can also contact an expert locksmith to repair the door cylinder. They'll be able match the new lock to the key you have already, to allow you to use your original lock. The most frequent issue with a car lock cylinder is that it won't turn when you try to use your key. This is usually caused by corrosion or dirt that has built up and is preventing the cylinder from moving freely. It is simple to fix this problem by lubricating the mechanism. Remove the screws and then carefully move the cylinder to ensure that it is in alignment with the keyway. Be careful not over tightening the screw or you could end up damaging the components. Door Lock Replacement If your lock is worn out or looks a bit old, replacing it will give you a fresh new look. It's a simple process that you can complete at home in a few steps. Make sure you take the time to examine the deadbolt and latch settings in order to ensure that your new locks are properly set. Remove the screws that fix the knob plate inside the door. Then, pull the knob and latch off. If the plate inside is decorative and doesn't have screws, carefully remove it using a screwdriver. It may be secured by pins or it could snap off at the edges. Once the plate has been removed, you can take out the deadbolt and latch. It's now time to install the new lock plates. Make sure that the interior and exterior plates are positioned over the deadbolt hole on the jamb of the door and that the long metal spindle from the lock cylinder mechanism going through both holes. Once you have the plates placed, you can thread screws through the screw holes to secure them together loosely. If the plate doesn't have screw holes, you can simply slide it over the latch. Use the screws included in the lock kit you purchased instead of the screws you already have. Instead, use the screws included in your new lock kit. If you don't have the right size screws, visit a home improvement or hardware shop and purchase a set of screws that match the rest of the hardware on your new door lock. Make sure that your new latch plates and deadbolts are the exact same length as the originals, and they're placed in the right place over the jamb's hole. Once all the parts are in place then tighten the screws. Now you can check the latch and deadbolt using your key. If the key does not turn, you should contact an locksmith.
